As the Mid Year Exhibition of the Group approaches, let Box Hill Art Group’s weekly programs develop your artistic skills and creative life in the context of community. Every year the members of Box Hill Art Group exhibit paintings, prints and drawings which are varied and often of impressive quality. Box Hill Art Group’s Mid Year Members Exhibition takes place 17th – 22nd June with entries closing 3rd June. There is an increase in prize money, no entry fees and exhibiting is open to all financial members of the group.

All Media

Farimah tutors and advises artists of all levels with whatever is your chosen medium. Farimah is expert, and has a great following. If you are new to her class, we invite you to book one session to give this great class a try. Click HERE for more information.

TUESDAY
Aimee Li – Introduction to Watercolour

On Tuesday afternoons Aimee Li conducts a class called Introduction to Watercolour or Watercolour Basics. Watercolour is a versatile medium well suited to both sketching and major studio works. This is a great opportunity to learn or refresh the techniques which underpin successful watercolour paintings.  Aimee’s course is carefully structured with each lesson building on the previous week. Craig Rawlings

Mixed Media

If you feel that your art has plateaued book into Craig’s Tuesday evening class and your creativity will be reawakened. This term Craig will be focusing on plein air drawing and painting. WEDNESDAY
Natalie Doubrovski

Expressive Painting & Drawing

Natale Doubrovski’s class on Wednesday evenings is a wonderful opportunity to expand your artistic horizons by exploring  different media and techniques with emphasis on developing observational and drawing skills.  This is an opportunity to try media such as  charcoal, acrylics,  graphite and watercolour pencils as well as pen and watercolour washes for travel sketching.  These classes are very good for beginners or even for more experienced artists to overcome their apprehension of  unfamiliar media and techniques and finding a direction which best suits them personally.

When the cares of the week have abated, it’s time to relax with a couple of hours of painting on Saturday afternoon with Tessa Joy. Tessa offers a wealth of experience across all media. Life Drawing

Wednesday 15th May the model is Patrick
and Saturday 18th May our model is John.

Develop and hone your drawing skills at our monthly two hour life drawing sessions with Box Hill Art Group. You will find great professional models and friendly fellow artists. All levels of ability are welcome. Cost $20 per session. The sessions are untutored.
Bring your own paper and drawing materials, (tables, easels, boards, coffee tea and biscuits) are provided.

Burnley Horticultural Gardens

26th May, 10am

Burnley Gardens in Richmond is a nine hectare garden, home to nearly 1000 different species of plants, with some of the oldest trees in Melbourne. It will be a wonderful location for plein air sketching.

Paint and Chat

On Wednesday a group meet in Drycraft West to paint and chat from 1 – 3pm except for once a month when the room is reserved for life drawing. It’s a friendly atmosphere so come along and join us. This is an all media session.

Exhibitions

Dianne Fogwell – Prescience – Geelong Gallery – 23rd March – 28th July

IT’S WORTH THE TRIP
The Geelong Gallery currently has an outstanding exhibition. A single work by Diane Fogwell comprising 56 colourful hand printed panels featuring woodcut, linocut and burn drawings. It  depicts the Australian outback including flora and fauna as it changes across the seasons through bushfire and climate change.

Luminous: A Festival of Watercolour – Victorian Artist Society – 17 – 27th May

Box Hill Art Group’s Mid Year Exhibition – Box Hill Community Arts Centre – 17th – 22nd June

The exhibition opening will be in the foyer gallery at BHCAC on Monday 17th June at 7.30pm where awards will be announced and presented.
